Three Types Of Gutter Guards To Avoid

In the world of gutter protection there are many very solid options to go with. There are a number of reputable proven brands that will drastically cut down on needs for maintenance. On the other hand there are many that I would place in the too good to be true category. Many solutions sound good on paper, but end up to be expensive gimmicks. Although some gutter guards simply get a bad wrap because the end consumer has an expectation that a cheap solution will end the need for any gutter maintenance forever. Unfortunately no system is going to work forever without some kind of upkeep.

1) Brush Type Gutter Guards

While the simplicity of installing what are essentially large pipe cleaners with rigid bristles would appear to be fool proof they are not. They certainly will keep a lot of large leaves out, but quickly are over ran by smaller debris. Instead of simply cleaning your gutters you will have to remove the brushes and clean them. After cleaning them out you must also reinstall them. This is more time consuming than simply cleaning your gutters.

2) Foam Strips

The large foam strips that you can insert into your gutters are another one that looks great on paper, but quickly become packed with shingle grit, small debris, and mud. They do not slow down how often you need to clean your gutters and make it harder to clean them when the time comes.

3)Any Cheap Plastic Ones From Big Box Stores

Out of the three listed these are the ones most likely to work. The reason we do not like them is because they are hard to install, become brittle over time, and tend to cave in. They are not a bad solution if you have a low pitch roof and check on them every couple of months, but as far as a long term solution they tend to not last.

So What Should I Use??

There are a number of expensive gutter systems that will run you thousands of dollars to get installed. Do they work? Sure. But at what cost? Here at Exterior Revival we recommend Shur Flo aluminum gutter guards or any product of similar specifications. These 3 foot strips click into the top of any standard gutter and are zip screwed in. They offer sturdy protection and are far more economical than other systems around. We still recommend a cleaning/inspection every so often to ensure everything is in good working order. We offer cleaning and installation of these guards in our premium gutter cleaning package. Please fill out our contact form or call 440-867-6413 today for more information.
