A water-fed pole is a useful window cleaning tool for a variety of situations. It is generally used only by professional window cleaners and is only worth using in certain situations. In this article, we will describe just exactly what a WFP is and when it should be used.

What Is A Water-fed Pole?

A water-fed pole is usually a carbon fiber pole ranging from 30-40' feet in extendable height used to reach high windows. The pole has a soft-bristled brush that has water jets that are fed by a hose inside the pole. The hose is connected to a water filtration system that produces spotless water. When used properly the brush scrubs the windows and frames to loosen dirt followed by a top to bottom rinse with spotless water.

When To Use A Water-fed Pole

The water-fed pole is best used in select circumstances to get the best results. When you first hear about this tool you may think that it will solve all your window cleaning problems, but that’s just not true. The pole can only be used on the exterior panes of windows due to it spraying water on them. A water-fed pole is more of a maintenance tool than an initial cleaning tool. If your windows have not been cleaned in years you will not be happy with water-fed results. An initial cleaning with a mop, squeegee, bronze wool, scrapers, and hard water removing cleaners may be necessary to get your windows cleaned. After an initial clean you can likely get beautiful results with a twice a year water-fed cleaning. If your window frames are heavily oxidized it will also present an issue with water-fed cleaning as the water will leave milky white streaks down the glass. Another time water-fed poles are useful is when there is a window that is impossible to get to otherwise or on large commercial projects where quick turn-around is key.

Is It Right For Me?

If your windows are not filthy, frames are not oxidized, and you want an efficient window cleaning job a water-fed pole is a good option. When you want a commercial exterior cleaned they are also a good option. If you want your windows cleaned we would recommend at minimum an initial clean with a traditional squeegee then going forth a twice-yearly water-fed cleaning to maintain.
